Perinatal Factors and Schizophrenia Essay In considering the various statistical tests, the studies have based their analysis on the total population and basically by looking at the factors that encourage the occurrence of Schizophrenia among the offspring following from the effect of these factors on the parents. That is, the factors that are likely to affect the genetic composition that is inherited by the offspring in causing schizophrenia. Various statistical tests were used that include logistic regression, Poisson regression and Mantel-Haenszel test. Systematic review was also used in the case where raw data was not used, and was done by the reviewing of the previous studies. The value of the calculated statistics The factors that were considered in the various studies are statistically significant in explaining the factors that cause schizophrenia depending on the varied populations that the studies used. The factors that are identifiable as being a cause for schizophrenia include; children who are born by the mothers who were exposed to some severe life experiences and more especially the death of a close relative during the first trimester ( Ali K, Kathryn, Roseanne, Marianne, Roger and Philip, 2008). This situation increases the possibility of the the offspring developing schizophrenia. The other factor that encourage the developing of schizophrenia among the offspring is the tendency for the parents to expose themselves to analgesics. The effect of the analgesics in encouraging the development of schizophrenia is independent of either male or female parent exposure to analgesics. The treatments offered to the mother during pregnancy also increase the possibility for schizophrenia to develop among the offspring. The other factor that is identifiable as a cause for schizophrenia among the offspring is when the mothers had a psychotic disorder during their adult life, more especially the mothers who had preeclampsia during their adult life. The place and time of birth also has an influence in causing schizophrenia among the children. The children who are born in urban areas and in some months of the years are at risk of developing schizophrenia compared to the ones born in the rural areas and in the months of the years other than March and early December. The obstetrical complications during pregnant and the infections by influenza virus are also among the factors that lead to the development of schizophrenia among the offspring. Significance to nursing practice The factors identifiable as the cause for schizophrenia are very important in the nursing practice. The nurses are able to provide advice to the mothers on the various practices that they are expected to adapt in protecting their offspring from developing of schizophrenia. Therefore, it will be a preventive measure other than curative. Following the nature of schizophrenia, it is better to prevent than providing a cure, hence significant to the nursing practice. Discussion Interpretation of the results. On analyzing all the articles, it is identifiable that all the studies had focused on the causes of schizophrenia among the offspring following the various factors that surrounded the parents, that is, both the male and the female parents. Therefore, schizophrenia is perceived as being a genetic complication that is transmitted from the parents to their offspring. Implications The main cause for schizophrenia is the genetic distortion that occurs within the parents following some factors, which is later evident in the offspring. Therefore, schizophrenia is an hereditary complication. Study Limitations The information used in some other studies was never complete, that is some information were missing for some objects used in the study. The strengths and the weaknesses of the Study. The studies provide a mixed reaction following the various factors that are considered as a cause for schizophrenia and they have not given the genetic mechanisms that are involved in occurrence schizophrenia, otherwise, they have used an inductive approach. Summary The cause for schizophrenia is attributed to the factors that affect parents of an offspring and more especially during pregnancy. The factors affect the genetic structure that is later reflected in the characteristics of the offspring.

Downsizing has become an extremely popular strategy in today’s business environment. Companies began downsizing in the late 1970’s to cut costs and improve the bottom line (Mishra et al., 1998). The term â€Å"downsizing† was coined to describe the action of dismissing a large portion of a company’s workforce in a very short period of time. According to online encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org downsizing refers to â€Å"layoffs initiated by a company in order to cut labor costs by reducing the size of the company.† Downsizing became a familiar management mantra in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. In fact, three million jobs were lost between 1989 and 1998 (Mishra et al., 1998). More than 350,000 jobs were lost in 2001 (DeSouza & Donaldson, 2002). Downsizing has become almost a way of life for U.S. companies. Typically, the first round of job cuts are followed by a second round of cuts a short time later. Not everyone agrees with t he reasoning behind downsizing. According to an article in the Journal of Banking and Financial Services, downsizing is merely â€Å"a short-sighted business strategy motivated by arrogant CEO’s eager to appease shareholders (Unkles, 2001). Others feel downsizing is a necessary tool to ensure business survival in the face of a changing economy. Regardless, the costs of downsizing are high, and the payoffs of downsizing are mixed at best. This paper doesn’t serve as an approach to downsizing, rather, it explores the many aspects of downsizing, from when it’s time to downsize to what steps that can be taken to avoid the process altogether. Do you think an employee's productivity is affected by whether they are satisfied or unsatisfied as an employee? Explain your answer. Yes, I think an employee's productivity is affected by whether they are satisfied or unsatisfied as an employee. As employees spend most of their time at work, the employees' identity is closely linked to their Jobs. Employees have feelings; they must feel satisfied or feel that the Job is treating them fairly. When they feel that they are being appreciated, they become satisfied and hence they tend to outperform unsatisfied employees in terms of labor retention, attendance and work quality.However, satisfied employees are not always more productive than unsatisfied employees. 2. In general terms, describe strategic HRM and its importance in the organization. Strategic HRM is defined as the development and implementation of human resource processes to facilitate the achievement of the organization's strategic objectives. Strategic HRM allows an organiz ation to make informed and purposeful actions. Because of strategic HRM, the company now has a clear common vision of why an organization exists which enables better and more effective HRM decisions.HRM ctivities are now also able to expand awareness of possibilities, identify strength and weaknesses, reveals opportunities and points which are needed to evaluate the probable impact of internal and external forces. A strategic HRM plan which is well designed will allow the HR department to be prepared to cope with changes in external and internal environments. 3. In the past decade, there have been rapid, turbulent, and often strained developments in the relationship between employers and employees. Describe these developments and what they mean to HR managers.New trends and changes have occurred in telecommuting, outsourcing, HRM practices, family medical leave, child care, spousal relocation assistance, pay for skills, benefit cost-sharing, union- management negotiations, testing a nd many other HRM areas of interest. These trends arise due to the rise of new lifestyles and an aging population. Because of these reasons, HR managers need to use new and flexible approaches without jeopardizing the survival of the organization. HR managers in the current time have to cope with changes and still contribute to the organization.

Most of the people would answer that they do not think about it, not because they are selfish just because this is a normal process someone dies other are born in the same day. True. Every day in USA dies around 7000 persons according to the United Nations Statistics Division. What if I will say that almost a  ¼ of them die because of the lack of donor organs? Still don’t care? What if among all the persons there is someone whom you know? I suppose now you care. I will introduce you the myths about organ donation, real facts and solutions.
